Hideaki Anno's "Shin Kamen Rider" Kicks Into High Gear With New Trailer

A new trailer has been released for the eagerly awaited Shin Kamen Rider from the director of Re: Cutie Honey and Love & Pop, Hideaki Anno (oh yeah, he also made a cartoon called Neon Genesis something-or-other).

While Shin Godzilla grabbed attention for how much was changed from the older films, from the cinematography to the design of the monster, Shin Kamen Rider is going for the opposite approach, as this trailer is an almost shot-for-shot recreation of the opening of the original 1971 Kamen Rider TV series.

Shin Kamen Rider is slated to be released in March of 2023 with Sosuke Ikematsu (The Last Samurai, Shoplifters) as Takeshi Hongo and Minami Hamabe (Kakegurui, The Promised Neverland) as Ruriko Midorikawa.

Hideaki Anno has a busy year ahead as Shin Ultraman is also due out in 2021, and the National Art Center, Tokyo will be running a special Hideaki Anno exhibition from October 1 to December 19, 2021.
