Masato Ohata

Masato Ohata was born on October 8, 1985. As a child, he learned to play the violin and loved clay and blocks. His first modeling work was a squirrel he made in arts and crafts in the 6th grade of elementary school. He was dawdling after graduation from Musashino Art University, he was impressed by the prototype of Banpresto's "Zoukei Tenkaichi Budokai" at a game center (especially the sculptures of Manabu Yamashita and Keiji Iwakura), and from there he began to seriously pursue becoming a prototype sculptor.

In 2013, he joined MIC Inc. He was assigned to the digital prototype team when he first joined the company, and while learning digital prototyping out of the blue, he worked on numerous commercial prototypes. He wanted to be able to create by hand, so he had a senior prototype maker teach him clay every day early in the morning before work, and participated in One Festival with clay prototypes for the first few times.

He presented his first original model "contagion girl" at Wonder Festival in 2015. His second original work "survival01:Killer" presented at Wonder Festival the following winter was selected as the seventh piece of Mamegyorai AAC (Amazing Artist Collection).

He was selected as a Japanese invited artist at Wonder Festival 2018 Shanghai Prestige. In the same year, he published "Masato Ohata Works: ZBrush+Molding Techniques" (Genkosha).

He is currently working as a freelance prototype artist.
