MAX Watanabe (real name: Makoto Watanabe, July 4, 1962) is a Japanese professional modeler. He mainly creates robot characters for Gunpla and other models. He is the representative of the garage kit manufacturer Max Factory. He graduated from the School of Commerce at Waseda University.

He named his modeler name "MAX" because it sounded better than the popular movie "Mad Max" at the time. MAX Nuri" is a common name for a painting method widely used in the robot character modeling world, named by the editorial department of Hobby Japan after MAX Watanabe's specialty and frequent use of this method in his works.
