Yasushi Nirasawa (August 26, 1963 - February 2, 2016) was a sculptor, character designer, and illustrator. He was born in Niigata Prefecture. He favors designs and marks that incorporate bones, mainly skulls, and asymmetry (left-right asymmetry).
After working as an assistant to Makoto Kobayashi, he made his debut in 1987 with a kit modification of a Kobayashi-designed Malasai for the magazine "HOBBY JAPAN EXTRA. His figure prototypes were published in magazines, and he participated in movies such as "Godzilla Final Wars" as a character designer.
In 2004, through the introduction of Tamotsu Shinohara, who had been in charge of creature design for "Masked Rider 555" the previous year, he participated for the first time in special effects work as a creature designer (undead design) for "Masked Rider Ken". His designs were highly acclaimed and led to the release of the undead design art book "UNDEAD GREEN BLOOD" in 2006. In 2009, he designed the villain "Goblin" that appears in "Masked Rider Den-O & Decade NEO Generations: The Battleship of Onigashima". He designed the villains "Goldora" and "Shirbara" that appear in "The Super Masked Rider Den-O & Decade NEO Generations Onigashima no Battleship" in 2009.
In 2011, Shinohara invited him to participate in "Pirate Sentai Gokaiger.
Tsutomu Nibei also participated in the art book "Bitch's Life," which he produced. They prefer designs and marks that incorporate bones, mainly skulls, and asymmetry (left-right asymmetry). He also often gives humanoid creatures a toothy expression.
In designing creatures related to "Kamen Rider," he sometimes incorporates designs of riders and monsters from past works (especially Showa Rider, which he came into contact with as a child), partly because he is an avid "Kamen Rider" fan himself. Each work also has a common design theme.
On the other hand, there are few creatures whose main motif is instrumental, and Nirasawa himself has stated that it is difficult.
Died suddenly of kidney failure on February 2, 2016.
